Roughly a million movie trailers drop online every week. To help parse through the endless stream of upcoming movies and TV shows, we’ve assembled a weekly list of the most exciting (and in some cases, weirdest) new trailers, along with a hype level rating, To track whether these particular trailers actually excite us, we’ve included a handy hype level rating. Afraid you might have missed something? Fear no more.

This was the week of Dev Patel in period pieces and ... we were here for it. Also in this week: Timothée Chalamet and Jesse Eisenberg in separate period movies set in France. The present has work to do.

The Hunt

Remember that horror movie about “elites” hunting “deplorables” that got canceled because Fox News and President Trump got mad about it? Well it’s actually coming out for real now! The tagline in this trailer conjures hype from disaster: “The most talked about movie this year is one no one’s seen.” In the trailer, we see the “deplorables” get put in kinky ball gags and dropped in some remote location. They think that the liberal “elites” are hunting them for sport, but is that really the case?

Movie release date: March 13 in theaters

Hype Level: 7, nothing like a political cancelation to build some interest in a movie that would’ve otherwise flown under the radar!

The French Dispatch

A “love letter to journalists,” The French Dispatch stars almost every Wes Anderson veteran you can name (and some new faces, including Timothée Chalamet) as the staff of the fictional The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun newspaper, and the subjects they write about. Maybe it’s because we’re journalists, too, but this looks like a riot.

Movie release date: July 24 in theaters

Hype level: 10. Wes Anderson is back, baby!

The Green Knight

David Lowery once again proves his range by adapting the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and casting none other than Dev Patel as his leading man. The trailer, which is full of intense Arthurian imagery, is absolutely incredible, offering brief glimpses of Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Joel Edgerton, and Alicia Vikander in medieval garb as Patel, as Gawain, travels to confront the Green Knight, played by Ralph Ineson.

Movie release date: May 29 in theaters

Hype level: 10. A full 10. 20, if we could. I mean, did you see Dev? Did you see his little fox friend? Did you see that giant hand on the horizon? Forget 20, how about 100?

Resistance

It’s Jesse Eisenberg, but he has this weird French accent that is, like, kind of believable, but also just jarring enough to totally take me out of it. He wants to help children laugh! He doesn’t know how to use a gun! But he’s gonna help the kids anyway he can.

Movie release date: March 27 in theaters

Hype level: 6, okay I hated the accent at first but it’s kinda hot? Maybe? Is it just his sincerity and determination to save some kids? Or the curly hair? I’m confused!

Altered Carbon season 2

The hit Netflix show is back and this time Captain America star Anthony Mackie takes the lead. A lot has changed for Takeshi Kovacs since the end of the first season — most importantly, of course, his body. Takeshi is looking for a person from his past, determined to find her. “That’s not love,” warns someone. “That’s obsession.”

Series release date: Feb. 27 on Netflix

Hype level: 8, but for the winning combo of artificial Edgar Allen Poe intelligence and Anthony Mackie

The Personal History of David Copperfield

The role of Dickensian hero David Copperfield is taken on by none other than Dev Patel in Veep creator Armando Iannucci’s adaptation of the beloved book. The story follows Copperfield through both waxing and waning fortunes as he grows from a young boy into a man, and features an extremely colorful cast of characters along the way. Tilda Swinton co-stars as Copperfield’s donkey-kicking aunt, with Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi, Ben Whishaw, Benedict Wong, Gwendoline Christie, and an incredible Morfydd Clark also along for the ride.

Movie/series release date: May 8 in theaters

Hype level: 8. Any time Armando Iannucci is at the helm, you know it’s going to be a good time.
