Nigeria: Sokoto - 12 Suspects in Police Net Over Kidnapping, Robbery

The police in Sokoto State have arrested 12 suspects over kidnapping, robbery and illegal possession of firearms.

A Deputy Commissioner of Police, Charles Mozie, who briefed journalists on Monday on behalf of the Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Kaoje, said acting upon credible information from a vigilante group of Gidan Abba village in Bodinga Local Government Area, the police arrested one Umar Abdullahi, alias Sanda who was found wandering at a black spot.
"During interrogation at State CID, it was discovered that the suspect was a member of a gang of kidnappers who terrorized Bodinga/Yabo axis," he stated.
DCP Mozie added that in the course of investigation one locally made pistol was recovered in his house.
He also revealed that one Hamza Adamu of Ali Akilu T/Balewa road, Sokoto was arrested in possession of one locally made revolver firearm with three short pieces of pipes as its ammunition.
"During interrogation the suspect confessed that the firearm was given to him by one Abubakar Bello 'm' of Isa L.G.A Sokoto State to deliver to Abubakar 'm' of Ali Akilu road Sokoto," he stated.
Similarly, he said a police patrol team attached to Salame Division, while on patrol within Zumana Village, Gwadabawa L.G.A of the state arrested one Bello Aliyu Usman of Zumana Village in possession of one locally made firearm, a handcuff, walkie talkies, a Golf 3 vehicle and five Police Community Relations Committee identity cards.
"During interrogation he confessed to have bought the firearm at Goronyo market, but could not give satisfactory account of how he got the other items. The suspect will be charged to court on completion of investigation," the DCP stated.
He said another suspect, one Abdulmajid Musa of Chinabarka village Sabon Birni, who was in possession of one locally made revolver pistol with 41 rounds of live ammunition was arrested.
The DCP added that during interrogation the suspect confessed to have bought the firearm from one Ibrahim residing in Bangi village Niger State at the rate of N15,000.
The case, he added is still under investigation.
He disclosed that eight suspects were nabbed for robbery and receiving stolen property.
